TikTok No Internet Connection Error

TikTok shows โ€œNo internet connectionโ€ or โ€œNetwork errorโ€ whenever the app cannot complete a request, whatever the reason. That is why the message appears even while your browser and other apps work fine. The cause is usually on the phone or the network: a data permission, a DNS filter, a VPN or proxy setting, or a network that blocks the app. Less often it is the account, and sometimes it is TikTok itself.

Short answer

  • If only TikTok fails, check per-app settings first: mobile data turned off for TikTok on iPhone, or data and battery restrictions on Android.
  • Filtering DNS, including Androidโ€™s Private DNS with an ad-blocking provider, can make one app report no internet while others work.
  • An HTTP proxy set in Wi-Fi settings may not be used by apps at all; Android says so on its own proxy screen.
  • Account problems show their own notices. If you see one, follow the account guide rather than changing the network.

Causes, from most to least common

Why TikTok says there is no connection while other apps work
CauseHow it showsQuick check
Mobile data off for TikTokWorks on Wi-Fi, fails on mobile dataiPhone Settings, Cellular, find TikTok in the app list
DNS filter or Private DNSFails on one network or everywhere with one DNS settingSet Private DNS to Automatic and retry
VPN or proxy settingFails only when the VPN or proxy is onTurn it off and retry once
Network that blocks the appFails on school, work or public Wi-Fi onlyRetry on mobile data
Old app or corrupted dataFails after an update or a full phoneUpdate the app; clear its cache
Wrong date and timeSecure connections fail across some appsTurn on automatic date and time
TikTok outageFriends see the same error at the same timeWait and retry later

The app uses one generic message for many failures, so the list below is ordered by how quickly each can be confirmed, not by what TikTok reports.

Checks that pin it down

Per-app mobile data on iPhone. Appleโ€™s guide to using cellular data explains that you can turn mobile data off for individual apps under Settings, Cellular, and that those apps then use only Wi-Fi. A TikTok switch left off is the most common reason the app fails on the street and works at home.

Private DNS on Android. Androidโ€™s network settings help describes Private DNS with three options: Off, Automatic, or a provider hostname. Ad-blocking and filtering DNS providers often block domains that apps need. Googleโ€™s own help for one of its apps notes that a โ€œno Internet connectionโ€ error there is often caused by a Private DNS setting and fixes it by turning Private DNS off and reopening the app. The same mechanism can affect TikTok. Router-level blocklists and parental controls behave the same way on a home network.

Proxy settings in Wi-Fi. Androidโ€™s Settings app shows a warning on its proxy screen, stored in the Android Open Source Project as proxy_warning_limited_support: the HTTP proxy is used by the browser but may not be used by other apps. So a proxy that works in Chrome can leave TikTok on a different path, or on a broken one if the network requires the proxy.

One network change at a time. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the reverse, with nothing else changed. If TikTok starts working, the original network is the cause.

Fixes, in order

  1. Turn mobile data back on for TikTok (iPhone) or remove data and battery restrictions for it (Android, in the appโ€™s settings page).
  2. Set Private DNS to Automatic, or pause the filtering app, and retry.
  3. Turn off the VPN or the Wi-Fi proxy and retry once.
  4. Restart the phone, then update TikTok from the app store.
  5. Clear TikTokโ€™s cache from its own settings, or reinstall it. Back up drafts first, because they live on the device.
  6. Set the date and time to automatic.
  7. If none of this helps on any network, report it from the appโ€™s settings; TikTokโ€™s help center lists a report a problem route.

When it is the account, not the network

Account restrictions are usually announced, not disguised as a network error. TikTokโ€™s integrity and authenticity guidelines prohibit automation tools, scripts and other tricks designed to bypass its systems, and say TikTok may ban or restrict accounts that behave deceptively, including new accounts the same person creates. Multiple accounts are allowed as long as they are not used to deceive or break the rules.

If the app shows a notice about your account, a feature that is unavailable, or a message about acting too fast, the network is not the problem. Our guide to TikTok connection and account restrictions explains how to check account status and keep evidence for an appeal.

Proxy and VPN notes

TikTok does not publish a policy on VPNs or proxies. What we can say from the mechanisms above:

  • A system-level HTTP proxy on Android may not carry app traffic, so it is a poor way to route an app. A VPN-style client that captures all traffic, or a phone that is itself on the network you want, behaves more predictably.
  • Changing the exit address mid-session looks like a sudden location change. Keep one address for the whole session.
  • Location consistency matters to a short-video app built around local content. A phoneโ€™s SIM country, time zone, language and IP country that disagree can make the session look unusual.

For accounts you run professionally, a phone line in the right country keeps those signals aligned. Coronium mobile proxies are physical devices with their own SIMs, each rented to one customer, available over HTTP and SOCKS5. The TikTok proxy page covers country and carrier choice. A good connection does not change TikTokโ€™s rules on automation and fake engagement.

Where to get a dedicated line

A Coronium mobile proxy is one physical device with its own SIM, rented to one customer. It connects over HTTP or SOCKS5, the IP changes by dashboard button, API link or timer, and data is not metered on dedicated lines. Brazil lines are the exception: 20 GB of data a month and a new IP on request only, with no timer. Stock and prices differ by country and carrier.
