Instagram Try Again Later Error

โ€œTry Again Laterโ€ on Instagram, usually with a second line that begins โ€œWe restrict certain activityโ€, means one action on your account has hit a limit. It most often appears when you like, follow, comment, message or post, and the rest of the app keeps working. It is a temporary restriction on that action, not a ban, and Instagram does not publish the numbers behind it. What it does publish tells you where to look and what to change.

Short answer

  • The message is an action limit. Instagram applies it when activity looks automated or spam-like, including activity sent by third-party growth apps.
  • Instagram does not publish a duration or a threshold for actions in the app. Fixed numbers you read elsewhere are estimates.
  • Check Account Status in the app first. It shows restrictions, lets you request a review and separates a restriction from an outage.
  • Stop the action that triggered it, remove third-party apps, change your password if one had it, and keep each account on its own consistent device and connection.

What Instagram says about restricted activity

Instagramโ€™s Account Status tool is where official information about your account lives. Instagram introduced it as a single place to see what is happening with your account and its content, with a โ€œRequest a Reviewโ€ route for decisions you think are wrong. The same announcement says Instagram may notify people in the Activity feed when an outage, rather than their account, is the reason something fails.

Instagramโ€™s ranking explainer adds that content against its Community Guidelines is removed and that repeated violations can lead it to block certain sharing features, giving streaming on Instagram Live as the example, before suspending an account. A โ€œTry Again Laterโ€ limit is milder than that: it pauses one kind of action.

The only numeric limits Meta publishes apply to its developer platform. The Instagram content publishing documentation caps accounts at 100 API-published posts in a moving 24-hour window, with a carousel counting as one post, and offers an endpoint to check current usage. Instagram does not publish equivalent numbers for likes, follows, comments or messages in the app.

What usually triggers the limit

Typical triggers and what each looks like to Instagram
TriggerWhat Instagram seesChange
Bursts of one actionMany follows or likes in a short timeSpread activity out and stop when limited
Growth or automation appActions sent by a third party with your loginRevoke the app and change your password
New account acting fastNo history, heavy activityUse the account normally before scaling up
Repeated identical comments or messagesSpam-like contentWrite messages individually
Many accounts from one device or addressLinked accounts acting togetherKeep each account on its own device and connection
Logins from changing locationsPossible account takeoverStay on one location; confirm security prompts

Instagram has been explicit about third-party growth tools. In its announcement on inauthentic activity, Instagram said it would remove likes, follows and comments generated by apps that artificially grow an audience, notify affected accounts in the app, and ask them to change their password. Accounts that gave such an app their login are the first suspects for action limits.

How long it lasts

Instagram does not state a duration for โ€œTry Again Laterโ€, and we found no official source that does. User reports range from minutes to days. Without an official figure, plan around the activity pattern rather than a timer.

Two habits are likely to prolong it: repeating the blocked action while limited, and adding new actions of the same kind from another device or app. If the message keeps returning after the account has been quiet for several days, check Account Status for a formal restriction and request a review there.

Rule out the simple cases at the same time. Update the app, sign out and back in once, and see whether friends report the same failure. If Instagram has an outage, the problem is not your account.

Limit, restriction, ban or glitch

How the four cases differ in the app
CaseWhat you seeWhere to confirm
Action limitTry Again Later on one action; the rest of the app worksThe message itself; it fades when you stop
Feature restrictionA feature stays unavailable for daysAccount Status lists it, with a review option
Disabled or suspended accountA notice at login instead of your feedThe notice and the appeal link it offers
Outage or app faultFriends see the same failure at the same timeInstagramโ€™s own notices; update and retry later

Four different situations produce similar frustration. The signs below come from what each one leaves behind in the app, so you can tell them apart before changing anything.

What to change on the account and network

On the account.

  • Stop the action that triggered the message and use the app normally for a while.
  • Open Account Status and read what is listed. If you think the limit is a mistake, tap the option to tell Instagram so.
  • Remove access for any third-party app that posts, follows or likes for you, then change your password.
  • Turn on two-factor authentication so that security checks do not compound the problem.

On the network. A limit is applied to the account, but Instagram also looks at where activity comes from. Several accounts that act from one device or one address look linked. A connection flagged as an open proxy produces a different warning, covered in our open-proxy warning guide.

If you manage several accounts you own, give each one a consistent environment: the same device or browser profile and the same connection every time, with logins from one location. Mobile lines suit this because the app is designed for phones. With Coronium mobile proxies, each line is one physical device with its own SIM, rented to one customer, and you control when its IP changes; for accounts, keep the address steady and avoid rotating mid-session. Our Instagram proxy page covers country and carrier choice, and the Instagram warm-up guide covers documented setup steps for new accounts.

None of this overrides Instagramโ€™s rules. A clean connection does not make automated or bulk activity acceptable.

Where to get a dedicated line

A Coronium mobile proxy is one physical device with its own SIM, rented to one customer. It connects over HTTP or SOCKS5, the IP changes by dashboard button, API link or timer, and data is not metered on dedicated lines. Brazil lines are the exception: 20 GB of data a month and a new IP on request only, with no timer. Stock and prices differ by country and carrier.
